Woman

As a girl I was told I’d be destined for motherhood.

I’d have to repress my worldly desires, repress my needs, and be subservient to HIM.

He wasn’t anyone in particular, but someone of higher power than me, someone whose masculinity oozed out of every fiber of his being — HIM.

Who was he to be so special? Why could he subdue me?

I, the creator of life itself — the bearer of future generations to come.

Tell me, does it repulse you when I renounce your power over me?

Tell me, what can you do?

You can enslave my body — but my mind is mine!

It has preserved, it has discovered what it means to survive!
